157 years of reading in Jagodina For the 157th anniversary of library in Jagodina, people form this town could see the exhibition of Belgrades library which was held on the occasion of 80th anniversary since the death of narrator,novelist and dramatist Borisav Stankovic.The guests could see the most important details from his life and work Apart from address of welcome they could hear the extract from Kostana which was narrated by the actor Aleksandar Antic.Readers who read the biggest number of books were given commendations and books, and the Library, on the day of its anniversary, was back in its place of Serbian library network, where it belongs.

New from Prijepolje
Our network became richer for a very meaningful, nicely graphically formed and veru functional internet presentation of Main library Vuk Karadzic from Prijepolje,the address is www.biblioteka-prijepolje.com .Before making the site it was worked on the new logo of the library and on visual identity of this institution which is very important for the people of Prijepolje.Management board of library adopted a solution which could be understood in two ways-styled symbolic image of the tree with fruits of knowledge and the trunk. The meticulous access to the preparation of presentation on internet, followed by a hard work of all employees on creating material needed and making original photographs, and with the excellent cooperation with Belgrades agency AT Haus www.athaus.co.you brought us to an excellent result on which all librarians are very proud of, said Nermina Duran. Calligraphy in library Friday January the 18th ,in hall of library in Sabac there was exhibition of calligraphic works of childrens art colony. In 2007 monastery Cokesina was the host of childrens art colony organized by primary school King Aleksandar Karadjordjevic from Prnjavor .12 talented pupils from 5th till 8th grade,from various places,had an opportunity to show their talents for art and to learn how to practice calligraphy and monotype.Exercises of calligraphy were kept by Natasa Jovanovic, professor of school of art in Sabac.Exibition in library will last till February the 1st.

Trip to Zadar! American Corners Regional Conference (SE Europe) was held in Zadar from May 15 to 18, 2007.
Over 50 participants from 14 countries (Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Latvia, Hungary, Bulgaria, etc.) attended the conference.
The main theme of this workshop was Taking Your American Corner to the Next Level: Owning the Programs You Run.

There is a rumor going on that the American Corners from Serbia are one of the best in this part of Europe. This was stressed several times during the workshop, and highlighted by Americans who are in charge of the whole American Corner project, directly from D.C.! :)

27.12.2007.- ČAČAK - E Čačak - Periodicals of City library in Cacak,Vladislav Petkovic Dis, will be digititalized till summer.In this way all local newspapers and magazines from the end of 19th century till the mid of 20th will be available to all visitors of library site,and rare ones, of which most were saved in one copy,will be protected.The realization of digitalization starts from January the 15th.It is financed by Ministry of economic and regional development and with 726.000 din. In the next 6 months around 15.000 pages of periodicals were planed to be digitalized, and after that they will be available on the site.

23.11.2007. NOVI SAD - New building of BMS - Library of Matica srpska,the oldest library of national importance and first public science library of Serbs was founded in 1826 in Pesta. New building for Library of Matica srpska in Novi Sad will be formally opened on November the 23rd of 2007,as was announced from BMS. Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and chairman of the Board of Vojvodina Bojan Pajtic will open it. Money for building was taken from provinces and republic budget and it was finished and furnished with means from National investing plan. The most of the space was planed for books,periodicals,special collections. New building has two reading-rooms, furnished working premises and newest air-conditioners.
23.09.2007. - BELGRADE - New in National library - National library of Serbia will be closed for visitors from September 23rd till July the 1st in 2008 because of reconstruction and adaptation of premises. Its because of the project that is financed by NIP with 184 000 000 din. The work includes entire space available for readers, as well as repairing of all reading-rooms with increasing of their capacity in 40%, furnishing new reading-rooms for blind or short-sighted people, premises for special material like maps, posters, engravings. NBS continues with its regular activities in other fields like upkeeping the system of mutual catalogization, main service, digitalization of material, buying the books, international cooperation

VRANJE - On Wednesday, November 9, U.S. Ambassador Michael C. Polt, Vranje Mayor Miroljub Stojcic, and the Director of "Bora Stankovic" Public Library, Aleksandra Antic will open the American Corner in Vranje. This project is the result of cooperation between the City of Vranje and the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade.
According to the Agreement signed by the municipality, the Library and the U.S. Embassy, the Embassy funded the renovation of the space and provided furniture, technical equipment, books, CD-ROMs, promotional materials and staff training for the American Corner, with a value exceeding $64,000. The municipality of Vranje has provided the location, staff and utilities for the American Corner, and also covered part of the renovation costs.
The American Corner will house a collection of American reference materials, fiction and non-fiction books, magazines, CD-ROM databases, videos/DVDs, as well as numerous U.S. Government publications. Professional bilingual librarians, trained to provide information about American history, government, culture and society, opportunities to study in the U.S., and other aspects of the United States will be on hand for assistance. The Corner will also have several computers available with Internet access.
The American Corner also provides a forum for a full range of exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and presentations by American speakers, Fulbright professors, English Teaching Fellows, Embassy staff and others.
The American Corner will be opened to the public Monday-Friday from 08:00-19:00. The first 100 visitors will receive a free poster and a bookmark.

The State Library of Serbia has donated 350 foreign books and magazines of great value to the library of the Museum in the region of Rudnik and Takovo. The Museum now has 2 000 more books than earlier and range from 1870 to 1941. A lot of them were published before World War I, while some were written in French and English. Most of them never had more editions than the original, ranging from topics to do with history, archeology, ethnology and the arts. Among the books donated to Gornji Milanovac are the following: The Voice of the Earth Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, The Voice of the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade, The Voice of the Serbian Academic Society, and the Edition of National Customs, The Annual Statistics for 1933, The Serbian Ethnographic Collection and other valuable publications
